Course Overview:
This is the first stage of our four-part adult fashion program, designed to take you from complete beginner to being able to independently design and create your own garments. The first and second stages focus on foundational training and include all materials. Stages three and four are project-based and focused on personal design, where students bring their own materials based on their creative direction.
Fashion Making – Level 1:
Foundations of Garment Construction
In this beginner-level course, you’ll start from scratch. Your instructor will guide you step-by-step through the essential skills of fashion making, including both pattern drafting and sewing. By the end of the course, you’ll complete your very first garment using professional techniques.

1. Measurement & Pattern Drafting
• Body Measurement – Learn how to take accurate body measurements
• Fitted Bodice Pattern – Draft basic front and back bodice using draping techniques
• Basic Skirt Pattern – Cut and draft a standard skirt
• Dress Pattern – Design and draft a dress or similar one-piece garments
• Shirt Collar & Sleeves – Learn how to add collars and sleeves (optional project)
• Button Techniques – Learn how to make buttonholes and add buttons (applied to dress, blouse, or skirt)
2. Sewing Techniques
• How to Use a Sewing Machine – From basic functions to real applications
• Sewing Methods – Discover different sewing techniques and how they impact the look and function of a garment
3. Full Garment-Making Process
• Go through the full fashion-making experience — from pattern to sewing — and complete your first wearable piece with your teacher’s support!
